The Righties love to attack our Media Victories, with the simple saying "They are small potatoes!" This is the same argument that they kept throwing at Air America and others like Big Eddie -
"Oh they are going bankrupt", "They only have 20 stations", "No one listens to liberal radio". Well, I proved them wrong with an earlier
diary showing that Air America and liberal radio has proven to be a success and is about to break wide open. Now it looks like here soon I will be able to prove them wrong with their similiar attacks on
Keith Olbermann.
As many of you know, Righties love to throw back in our face that King Bill O'LIEly gets many more viewers than Keith does. Well SpongeBob gets more viewers than Bill does, and Jon Stewart's Daily "Fake News" Show attracts more of the key 18-34 demographic than FOX's "Supposedly Real" News. But they don't like to hear that.
But is Keith's Ratings starting to grow? A trend is starting to form, that not only may disturb the Righties, but make MSNBC reconsidering moving to the Right.
First let's start with
Jan. 2005's Ratings sheets. Nothing to call home about, but let's use this as a base. Big Bill got a 2.1, while Keith got a 0.3. This equated to Bill having 1,827,000 viewers on average in January, while Keith only had 282,000 viewers. Now Bill has always claimed that he drew 5 million viewers, but we know that to be
false. I always believed that the typical FOX viewer didn't have a life and could only sit there and be yelled at. It is nice to know that there is not 5 million of them.
So lets look at the most recently released figures for this month. Bill is still at the top, but Keith jumps to 416,000 viewers. THIS IS A 48% JUMP!!!! Keith also outranked his conservative team mates Matthews (411,000) and sCROWborough (360,000)
There is even this quote from MediaBistro -
There are signs of hope for MSNBC in its pursuit of young viewers, though. Late-night is still primetime for the 25-54 demo, along with West Coast viewers. And at 11pm, the Hardball repeat was #2 in the demo, with 138,000 viewers. (O'Reilly had 286,000, HLN had 111,000 and Lou Dobbs had 96,000.) At midnight, Countdown with Keith Olbermann was #1 in the coveted demo, with 219,000 viewers, compared to Brit Hume's 205,000 and Larry King's 176,000...
What this tells me is that Bill's success is an old people and Eastern (probably Southern) issue. The moment that the West Coast and the youth get home, Keith Olbermann is drawing an audience. So what can we do as bloggers to get the numbers even higher?
